Judge O'Brien asks for your vote to continue to serve the citizens of Dallas County with fair justice for all. She pledges to always listen, be fair and follow the law.
VOTE to keep integrity and fairness on the bench! Judge O'Brien has increased the productivity of this court since taking the bench and reduced the backlog left by her predecessor. She provides free legal assistance resources to everyone who needs them, protected families and property owners during the COVID-19 pandemic, and offers flexibility for the defendants to clear their cases quickly and affordably.

Dallas County has five JP districts, each with two JPs and a Constable. Precinct 2 consist of Balch Springs, far East Dallas, Garland, Mesquite, Rowlett, Sachse, Sunnyvale & Wylie. A Justice of the Peace (JP) has jurisdiction over civil small claims cases up to $20,000 as well as other civil cases like debt claims/credit card cases and evictions. The criminal case docket consists of traffic tickets resulting in a fine only that are class C misdemeanor and below. JP's also may issue mental warrants, occupational driver's license, and conduct marriage ceremonies.
Judge O'Brien was first elected to serve as JP in 2018. She earned her Graduate Certificate in Dispute Resolution/ Mediation from SMU and has over fifteen years of experience as a small business owner. Judge O'Brien is an active community volunteer and has loved to call Dallas County home for over two decades.
